Our Story

Started in a shed,

now we’re here

A track saw, a router, and a vision that wouldn’t quit. This is how Odyssey started.

A new horizon

From the workshop floor to the farthest horizons, our approach combines technical know-how with real-world understanding. Every decision is deliberate, every detail purposeful – because we know it’s not just about building vehicles, it’s about enabling adventures. This is how we turn craftsmanship into confidence.

Built in a mate’s shed. Now built to last anywhere.

Odyssey started with a track saw, a router, and a garage that wasn’t ours. We bought a Troopy, built the fitout ourselves, and somewhere between the first cut and the last trip, realised this was more than a project — it was a purpose.

We chose Fremantle because it reminded us of home. We chose Troopies because no one was doing them justice. And we chose to say no to half-jobs, rushed builds, and ideas that wouldn’t survive a week on the road — because we’d rather build something right than build something fast.

Every build since has been shaped by the people who use them. Customers bring ideas, we bring the craft, and together it evolves. That’s not a process we designed on paper. It’s one that grew around campfires, in workshops, and on the tracks that test everything.

Standards don’t slip. Even when no one’s looking.

We’ve built a process around the things that matter. Every build is checked by a second set of eyes, measured against our quality control documents, and only signed off when it meets the standard. Then at handover, we go through everything together — because we want you to trust your build before you ever hit the road.

We use birch ply because it’s strong, beautiful, and proven. We won’t build something we don’t believe will work, even if the customer’s drawn it up. And we only ask for reviews from people who’ve actually been out and used their vehicle — because honest feedback matters more than quick praise.

It’s not about perfection for its own sake. It’s about knowing that somewhere on a dirt track, in the middle of nowhere, every joint, every drawer, every detail has to hold up. That’s the standard. That’s the promise.

Two men stand in front of a Toyota Land Cruiser Troop Carrier with a pop-top roof in a muddy, wooded area.

We don’t just build them. We live in them.

Odyssey wasn’t born in a boardroom. It was born on the road — in a Troopy we built ourselves, travelling up and down the west coast when the world shut down. We’ve slept in these builds, cooked in them, fixed them in the dirt, and pushed them further than any spec sheet would recommend.

That’s why we won’t sign off on something we wouldn’t trust on our own trip. Every layout, every system, every material choice comes from experience — not theory. We know what works at 3am on a cold night in the middle of nowhere, because we’ve been there.

The workshop is home now, but the road is never far away.
